New travel system is not a significant problem. I have done 2 exp parties and
an EQ party in the last couple days and had no problems getting to either one
in a reasonable timeframe. EQ party had a wanderer and the exp party did
areas on the same continent. Made a good rate for exp. Only problem was
ress/rais bug than had our 1 death sent back to Church of All gods (this
happened in both exp parties).
I was able to adapt quickly. It does require learning new game content, and
world knowledge has not been important in that past. When you reinc you could
just mem location as you went to them in other parties or just always get
summoned. I had no idea of the outer world location of many regular exp
areas, it just wasn.t needed.
With the tunes to ferry price and the travel command it.s still easy, cheap,
and fast to get around. It is just not instant. This is a good thing. If
the distance didn.t matter what would be the point of having a world map at
all?
Some of the potential benefits I can see from this system are:
1.Ability to spread load between different hardware (lag is bad)
2.Ability to delay player arrival (useful for creation of scripted/semi-scripte
d content). This is a key factor if you ever want to have a working PvP
system. It is important that your friends can.t all arrive in 3 rounds and
own someone.
3.Added game content. The old batmap was just old. It did not have any logic
or plot to it. Just a random organization of area.s. The new map allows for
wiz.s to code location based that is logical. IE instead of randomly
wandering around the world human bard song masters would wander the human
kingdom, and elf song masters would be in the elf kingdom.
4.This last is a guess; large scale chance to the map/l system would be needed
for the new bat client.
Blackstar I disagree with your opinion but I 100% agree with your method. You
waited to form your opinion about the new system until bug fixes/tunes had
settled down. You thought before you posted. And most importantly you post
constructive criticism. The last 100 ideas-wanted whines should thing about
that. Follow this logic: explain politely and in detail why you want
something changed, then suggest a reasonable solution.
