The way Asheron's call handled travel was to have a few hundred portals that
led to random places. There was lots of running involved, but once you learned
the network, fast travel was possible. The problem was of course that lots of
times you had to run through horribly nasty places to get to the next portal
on the route.

The go spell would make this a little tricky to work in Batmud, but by having
perhaps 20 portals, most of which were in and led to nasty or remote places,
players could gain more choices provided they took the time to learn them and
were willing to deal with portals that lead into the middle of lava lakes,
reigons with unusually many ambushing monsters, or places that were simply in
the middle of nowhere.
