Nowadays there are a lot of database based search engines, but we

You truly live up your name. Even i know four pages that have such
databases. There is also ½dozen pages that don't have actual database, rather
list of items, but even those have data about what, how much and (sometimes)
where.
Plus I dislake maps except obious ones (city/outerwolrd/ect maps that you
could think you could get your hands on by asking a scout or a native).
You were a kova jätkä if you had good maps when visiting a friend to play
Dungeon Master. Mapmaking is a art that should not be lost.

Well, I've put something like this at http://batshoppe.servegame.org
To avoid spoiling the game too much, room and monster locations are at
a cost, as are maps.
Side of the (nominal) fee and some what general data, the site has another
disadvantage. Sooner or later you run out of steam and you do Twomit.

If done properly though, this could probably be a quite valuable resource.
IMHO BatWiki (http://taikajuoma.ath.cx/bat/batwiki) works teh bestest. It
has vague enough info about how and where but exact enough info about what.
Also the data comes from "all" players thus the weight of the world is not on
one mans shoulders.
Taking (read:asking) the site to wiki.bat.org would be grand, specially if
you could only add data with your (+30d? old) character.
Also, hats of for Milk, Dupre and Juo for making the site real.

A :-D hits you.

When I speak \"own\" I mean BatMud, not player made / anything that is located
elsewhere than BatMuds server(s).
Of course I know there is a lot of resources, heck I even have some in my cpu..
