I very rarely see dreams about BatMUD, but this time I actually had one. In
that dream, I had several pieces of equipment - a blacksmith's hammer, some
cold prot cloak, a screwdriver, an spr belt and something else (don't remember
which). It seems that I found out that these items could be merged together -
I had to find the statues of seven Gods, a large number of beautiful gems,
some heatstone (a sort of stone that collects heat and keeps it for a long
time) and also quite a bit of gold. I went to a forge in a secret place in the
mountains, and using my skills (I was a merchant, by the way), I finally
forged all of this into a single item, a mithril hammer which combined all of
the abilities of my previous eq. So much for the dream.
When I woke up, I thought that this is something that could easily be
implemented here. I'm sure it has been suggested before, but let me explain:
What I think would be cool is this:
1. It'd be nice to merge 3-4 (or maybe 2-3) items that take different slots
into a one-slot item that combines all the magical properties of its parts.
2. The items don't have to be named, but a named item confers all of its
bonuses to the new eq, an unnamed has its bonuses halved.
3. The resulting item can only be used/worn/wielded by the person for whom
it is made. Moreover, during the forging process, the person can set which
slot it will take and any descriptions that the item will have.
4. Forging the item demands the skills of a merchant, a forge and several
special items: the statues of BatMUD Gods (gotten from a personal quest(s)),
several high-quality gems, several hundred thousand gold coins and some luck.
5. Also required are large amounts of coal and smaller amounts of heatstone
(a stone only found in mountain terrain with mountaineering skill, quite rare
material).
6. This forging has maybe a 25% chance of going wrong, upon which the forge
and its contents explode killing both the merchant and the person who donated
the items.
