Here's a couple ideas about races:
1. I think race guilds should be revamped, or at least looked into. Imo they
should offer slightly more useful skills than.. fishing. Or attack. Let's face
it, there are only a small number of guilds that offer something useful.
Brownies get invis, drow get an offspell (even if a crappy one), someone gets
minor party heal to racemax, hobbits get burrowing, etc. And then there are
guilds that offer some skills to a ridiculously low percent.. a percent that
gets superceded by the first two-three real guild levels a player takes. Is
there any point in catfolks getting 20% dodge from race guild? I mean, it
might help a newbie on his first couple levels, but later on it's useless.
What I suggest is this: give each race guild something unique, or at least
something that does not get superceded so quickly in their next 5 levels. This
brings me to idea nr. 2.:
I really liked that in the old days some races got racial bonuses to certain
skills and spells. Why not bring that back? Let's say, give each race just one
skill or spell bonus that actually stacks with trained skill/spell. Even
better if it would be a useful skill or spell. Let's say catfolks could get a
10% racial dodge bonus instead of the 20% they can train in race guild. I
think there'd be more incentive for players to try out more different races
than just sticking to the same lame universal combos. Like dwarves could get a
25% mining bonus from race, instead of the redundant skill they get from
guild. I mean, who takes dwarf for other guilds than merchant? seriously.
Anyway, you get my point. I think we should reinstate old race bonuses AND
keep the race guilds, but change their skills a bit.
