At least one spell in the game REQUIRES a target, and I believe some skills do
too. So 'aura of hate' or 'frenzy' or 'lear mask' or 'whatever insta-agro'
does not solve the problem figuring out an alias for the monster in question.

my guess is he'd like to kill something instead of standing around stumped
with weapons drawn trying to figure wth the monster is called to be able to
start hitting it.

Since auto-attacking everything is not a great idea in general, and since some
monsters do not respond to their racial handle (I'd say about 1 in 7), I'm not
ready to make either of these ideas the norm. However, if a monster is coded
so that there's no obvious/usable way of handling it, that is a fault of the
coder. You shouldn't have to put up with that.
Send a bug report when you find a monster that does _not_ respond to any of
the words in its short description. Normally I'd ask for a targetted bug
report, but if you can't handle the monster, you can't do that, so just make
sure you're in the right room if possible.
