Hi. Had a few comments in the past weeks (Im one of the few who actually pay
attention to the newbie channel) of low level noobs just being randomly
blasted into bits by this fucking fucktard event "Meteor". First of all, can
i just say that whoever coded the events quake, meteor, etc is a fucking moron
and deserves to be kicked in the nuts. That being said can at LEAST the
event's crappy effects be limited to lvls 30+ or so who at least have a chance
to avoid not being killed by them. The negative events already cause havoc
among the mid lvl players, I dont think we should give total noobs an even
worse impression of this mud. At the very least that event could be tuned to
take a total % of a player's current hps.

The game engine should now be capable of modifying the level of corpse undeads
based on the area or room in which they animate. A specific list of newbie
areas (those on the post) could then force them to be level 1. There could be
another side to this coin in high powered undead themed areas which I'll leave
to the imagination of the reader.

My opinion is that this newbie-catering is naive. I'm sure it's on par with
the modern pedagogical 'knowledge' but come on, this is a game. How much
cotton can a newbies ass take?
All of these 'tunes' just seem to me like the game is in desperate need of
players and needs to give a nicer picture of itself than it in reality is.
Why not just put newbies into noclip godmode before level30, that way they
wont have to deal with the everyday problems of the 'grown-ups'.

get off your high horse... when i started here i made a healer and stood at
the newbie sign healing higher level players for a month or two to get level
30 without ever killing a damn thing or getting killed myself, i hate this
bullshit belief that newbies today have it SOOOO much easier than everyone
else had it...

and regardless of what you may think about new players logging on here, it is
definitely a big turnoff to someone new when they run around and get 100k exp
on from exploring and think wow, i have a ton of exp and then suddenly their
screen turns red and they're in hell because of some stupid pointless event
they had no way of defending themselves against

Blayke makes a couple of excellent points. First, that he needs to switch from
cocaine to qualudes. Second, that killing newbies with meteor and harsh events
isn't a good way to recruit players.
Personally, I think that immunity would be a huge mistake because it would
give the false impression that those events are nothing more that odd weather
messages. Limiting the maximum damage to something like hpmax*min(1,(level*3+10
)/100) i.e. 11% at level 1 climbing up to uncapped by level 30 would be one
good approach. Another could be to limit damage to 90% of current hp up to
level 30 (or whatever). New players wouldn't be shocked that the meteor which
didn't harm them last week at level 29 killed them outright at level 31.

Presence suggestion on the zombies is also an excellent one.

ps. cutter picked an unfortunate spot to insert an extra line, but the formula
is still as intended, albeit with extra white space between 10 and )
