Can we update the help rules quest? I think that it is way too easy as it is.
Should require to at least read all those helpfiles listed and ideally take
some sort of short quiz.

This has been on my todo-list for some time now, though on quite low priority.
I think I could up it a bit :)

Help rules quest is an easy and simple way to introduce a syntax for
getting basic help. I disagree, I think if you were to record how many
newbies typed 'help rules' after they have already completed the quest
you would most likely see that they at some point use it as a reference.
I'm pretty sure thats the original intent and don't see why it needs
to be more complicated then that.

Well, if we're talking about ORIGINAL intent, way back when in the old days
rules 101 involved 'reading' a whole heap of help files to be able to get the
quest and advance. Of course you there was no quiz and you didn't really have
to actually read the help files, but it at least forced you to type in the
names of the help files one by one. So no, clearly the original intent wasn't
just to say 'okay here's a help file you can check to direct you to the
rules', it was to try and make sure newbies actually read the rules. Of course
it still didn't really work, nobody bothered to read any of the files, so I
guess they changed it to it's current incarnation figuring if there was only
one help file to read for the quest, people would be more likely to read it.

I agree with Tarken (and how it hurts me to say that) about the quiz idea. If
you have a small quiz on the most important things, even if you don't say what
help file the information is in, just give a list of help files. That will get
our new players to actually read these things. We've got plenty newbie
helpers, so you can always make them grade the tests :) It'll also mean that
rebirthers and suiciders will (hopefully) already know the answers and can
easily complete the quest in moments. Maybe I am just cranky, but idiot
newbies who ask stupid questions about things they really should know just
irritates me.
