I had one just a while ago, got 100k exp and 50k money... who actually wants
to help a newbie if getting prices what you solo in half hour? Maybe this
sohuld be revisited by some wizard and see if theres something to do.. maybe
training points or something?

A very good idea imo. Make it 100 training points per apprentice and there
will be enough players willing to take them.

(maybe wrong group, sorry)
Ever thought that some people might actually want to HELP their apprentice
instead of looking forward for some tiny bonus that you probably won't even
get?
Can't speak for anyone else, but I atleast will not be changing anything
related to apprenticeships.
Your post crystallizes the essence of minmaxing; every action should have
gain, and only actions with highest personal gain should be undertaken.
I disagree. Howabout someone wanting to apprentice their friend/someone they
met online/someone they met at the local S&M Left Earlobe Fetish club, and
teach him/her/gimp the way the game works? Even perhaps get a well-behaving
partymember to your parties?
Just because you can have a larger personal gain in some other way does not
mean the current system is 'broken' or in anyway unfair.

PS. Heck, someone might even apprentice another players just for the sheer
desire of helping out a new player.

I think it's even simpler then that. I think that it's a feature in
the game which is for the most part being ignored and totally
unused to any potential in its current form. Who says you have
to have "morals" and all that crap to appreciate the way apprenticeships
are right now ? I'm sure everyone in this MUD will gladly continue
to ignore the apprenticeship feature so don't put us on the defensive.
If anyone has suggestions (like a few already have, thanks for those) that are
aimed at improving the used potential of the apprenticesystem, I'm all ears.
It just gives me goosebumps when the motivation for requesting a change, or
even worse, just stating that 'this is crap' without any ideas on how to make
things better, is based purely on the personal gain-aspect.
Heck, I've always thought we were a community. I still think we are. For all
proposals and whines, the wizards must consider not only the issue at hand,
but the impact on the whole game.

PS. Just a sidenote, I wasn't trying to put anyone on the defensive. I merely
stated that the original post was of the essence of minmaxing, and I still
think so. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with taking that approach at
playing, but I daresay that minmaxers are very seldom the primary target group
for any change.
