Hello, everyone.

There was some discussion about this earlier on, but I'd like to bring the
topic back up. The problem is that nowadays one usually has to ask around for
a day in order to get a merchant to cast feather weights.

Could we get a NPC that would cast proper fws (like a merchant with good KoM
and enough wis) for a bit higher price than the current market is. I think
merchants do fws for something like 2k per cast and then might give discounts
soo... 1,5x price wouldn't damage the economy too much?

Give it a thought or two before replying, please.

I used to charge 5k/cast as a merchant and I had just about the right amount
of customers.
The fw/prot pricetag has remained virtually the same for the past 10 years,
yet the ability to make money has become quite something else from those
times. Perhaps it was time people paid a sensible amount for the time of
merchants.

You see, the problem is not that there are no merchants. The problem lies in
the customers willingness to pay enough for them to care.
At least that's how I saw it when I was doing merchanting.

.. basically you're suggesting merchants be able to make an alchemist fw
potion equivilent (the machine) that can cast fws for the customer when
needed.. ?

The problem with alch potions is that no matter how much mastery/stats the
alchemist has, its the drinker whose stats are checked when he throws the
flask at his armour -- giving fws yes, but crappy fws.. maybe modify fw
potions somehow to use the stats/masteries of the creator rather than the
thrower? Then the current system would be what Spid's requesting, just
requires a player to be both merchant (stats/masteries) and alchemist (to make
your 'machine' potions).

Or maybe I'm missing the point of the original post.. my apologies if so :P

Let me toss a suggestion. Lower the spcost for fws and prots. The problem maybe
isn't that there are no merchants in the game. Its just the fact that there is
a lack of good merchants in the game. Its just insane that the same set that i
fwd in mebbe 10mins takes closer to 30min from an average dwarf merchant.
Idling 30mins an waiting for a few fws is just boring.

Capitolism at it's best here in BatMUD. The problem isn't that Merchants
are pricing their casts too high, they should because it takes
exp and time to provide those services.

The problem is that fws and prots in this game are pretty lousy
and they arren't worth the 2k to most people who buy them. Thats
why people want discounts so badly and thats why people force
merchants to reinc out simply by whining about the price

If an NPC offered fw casts for 3k a cast I would never use
merchant because I don't have to meet him in esiris, or sail
across the ocean or even wait for him to be online. Better yet
I would know that the quality of my cast would be the same every
time from the NPC. What a horrible idea to get a fw/prot casting
NPC.

Players who play seriously require fws and prots to play. Those
players should be rewarded for their efforts by recieving a high
quality cast. Uptune merchants by making their spells more potent.
Let merchants increase those fw and prot times significantly.
Uptune the casts please

We dont need NPC, we need merchant player created fw machines.. where the
merchant can set the price of the machine. sell the machine in carts. or
direct from merchants in broker..

How about giving merchant carts 'Spell' slots that can contain prots or fws.
The merchant could set the price and cast the spell at the slot. A customer
could then come to the cart and buy spell x, then insert <item> and the spell
would be cast on the item.
The spell slots could start at a small cost and progress to insane, just like
normal merchant cart slots.
