Guilds that work with particular materials have the skills that work with said
materials. However there's occasional discrepancies. I am currently an
alchie, and I remember back when alchies didn't get mining, for example.
I believe I may now be coming up against another such discrepancy, though a
much lesser one. Alchies get Make Reagent, and should hypothetically be
important reagent craftsman. The materials they can work with are, however,
limited, not getting such skills as Masonry and Gem Cutting. While those are
not required for production of reagents, are required for such things as
refining of the materials for reagents.
Alchies only get Blacksmithing, allowing them to make 9 out of the 22 (by my
count) reagents from greater quality materials. The others materials require
gem cutting, masonry, and other skills, thus unless they purchase them, they
will only be able to use the base value materials.
Now, Runemages require gem cutting for what they do, since the two things they
rely on for just about all their magic are rocks and gems. But even they only
get 20% gem cutting.
With runemages as a precedent, I suggest that alchies also get a VERY TINY
amount of the skills in question so as to more effectively work with reagents
of non-metal types. Maybe 5 or 10%, just enough to be able to work with the
materials.
Thanks for your time! Good night!
