I have come to really enjoy the new improvements to ship usage. Although the
battle is presently more challenging, I feel it is more realistic -- instead
of sticks in the mud, enemy ships flee when attacked (or not!). But, I really
feel that the capacity for intelligent navigation has undermined these
improvements. Presently, the pattern is to hit 'cruise <dir>' and hit
compass/map to see how things are progressing. Because the pace is so quick,
there is little reaction time to adjust (and forget it if there's lag). I
feel like, to have a navigation realism that accords with the new battle
improvements, one should be able to see a large map (in the map box, say) or
give directions from the nest or something in order to make the act of chasing
these ships less tedious.

Just my two cents.

If you are using 'cruise' you are doing far too much work. Learn to use the
'pursue' command. :)

Tarken,

Yes, of course, I use 'pursue,' but only once I'm able to get within 3.0 of a
compass reading to use 'ship scan.' Before, with a non-moving target it was a
trivial effort. Now, the ship I want to ultimately pursue is on the move,
often on a trade lane. Trying to get close enough requires the use of cruise.
There is less than a second while cruising to type 'compass, map' (I use a
macro) and then adjust my cruising to aim at a moving target -- all in an
effort to get a name such that I can use the pursue command and begin
attacking in ernest.

As I suggested, a live map update as the ship cruises would tie in nicely with
this new system of moving targets (and I wish to stress I like this new
system). But we have an old navigation model which does not work well with
the system.

I hope this clarifies my constructive criticism.
