I was bored at work and decided to read some posts on bat.org forum. What I
noticed was that there are lots of questions by newcomers that have been left
unanswered or that have been answered to with a several days delay. While we
know that the reason for this is that people use the in-game news system, the
message this gives the new players is that the game community is not really
active.

To fix this, could we have an ingame inform about forum posts, similar to
'inform news'? This would probably make people to actually go read the posts
on the forum.

And as a sidenote, fix the forum opening in the bat.org frame. It looks
retarded.

Or better yet, add those posts to "forums.general", "forums.newbie",
"forums.batclient", etc.. and have those posts get put into the in-game news
system.. so that those of us that don't browse bat.org often or regularly can
subscribe to them and actually contribute to the "other news system" that's
been added exclusively to the web interface.

Personally, I think the 'forums' should be disposed of (with fire and beheading
if necessary) and change the 'in-game discussions' section a bit more to make
it easier for a newbie to understand and post in. (perhaps with a 'newbie'
group added)

I shall continue to ponder this idea for the next week or two, feel free to
rate this post or give me a tell if you like/dislike/have suggestions/etc for
the idea.

Yes, transfer stuff written on that forum thing to the batmud news and get rid
off that forum thing totally. Then make batmud news readable from the internet
like a common message forum. Adding posting ability to the internet side of
forum not necessary i think, could just add there a link character creation.

Batclient news window should be improved as followed:
-make it bigger by default
-dont make it transparent, its hard to read text which has transparent
background and atm the transparency off thing doesn't save
-use good colors
-add buttons, for creating new messages, replying, next message, previous, for
searching
-make writing messages work like in normal editors... not with ~d ~s **
marks... It creates the message on client side and sends it batmud and adds
those batmud editing chars as needed.

If you get rid of the bat.org forum and transfer that to in-game news, then
you need to make sure that the new news system supports pictures, code
snippets, tables, different fonts and text colours etc. Also posting stuff
from web is a lot easier than with the crappy in-game editor, so I don't see
why that should not be possible.

But to be honest, this sounds like a big project compared to just adding those
in-game informs about forum posts. So until that is completed, the informs
would be nice.
