Dear coders,

It would seem to me, in my delusion, that a newbie with a tmaker, or a highbie
with a tmaker, doesn't differ all that greatly in damage. The longer the game
runs, the more high-end weapons come in game, and the less difference there is
between players.

I would suggest, to make things more interesting, that some newbie code slave,
be assigned to go through the skills and spells of the game, and increase the
formulas to weigh MUCH more heavily on linked skills (cast special, cast
whatever), stats (MUCH more on stats), and remove the damage caps from stats.

The only reason to leave the damage caps in, would be if the formula wasn't
linear, in which case, change the formula. let there be some reward for a
highbie wearing +10 str hat instead of a newbies +8 str hat.

Right now, the people with a ton of xp, can put their xp into ascension, which
gives training points.. which.. gives stats.. but a level 101, gets 25
training points. lets say that gives them +1 stat... does it really effect
anything? It would be cool to see as much excitement out there for a +5 str
item vs +6 str item, compared to +5spr and +6spr.

Also, remove the diminishing returns on con/wis/int.

If you like the idea, tell your imms, if you dont like it, dont tell me
because i'll get all emo if i'm confronted with your hate. Conquer says he'll
handle all haters for me. Thanks,

E.

The problem I see from that is that high stats usually don't come from good
equipment, but from boones. A full dex boon gives 40 dex, that makes the boon
about 4 times as powerful as an highend item - without taking a slot (if can't
longer support more boons balance isn't an issue). I think that clearly shows
how hard it is to balance anything on stats, I think I read a comment from a
wiz that they consider 100 in everything, except size and cha to be normal
mortal stats. So the normal mortal for a wiz has 500 total stats, I with my
current reinc and a few quite nice items find my self at only 470.
Now I am ofc not in the same position as you, but I guess you would agree that
being ambush free(350+ int) isn't uncommon for a mage in a equip party.
So how do you want to balance that? I consider it as more difficult for some
newbie to get a tmaker, then to get a few boons.

Good post!

However, the discussion seems to be centered on stats/eq/rep vs damage.
I would extend the notion of "damage" into damage/epcost/duration.
It would open up a whole new range of possibilities for
wizzes and mortals alike!
