(imagine uncle Sam here pointing at you, just replace the red-and-blue hat
with a wizard's hat and add some bats for the sheer coolness of 'em)
Hi,
For ages the continent quests have been incomplete with some continents still
missing their quests. I'm not gonna name and shame anyone but myself for this,
the others can step forward if they so choose. One reason for the delay on my
part has been the lack of ideas and also too overwhelming steps needed to make
things happen.
What does this have to do with you then? The overwhelming part. Currently
BatMUD has around 450 alcohol drinks which contain a lot of data but sadly no
drink type. Now is your time to show your potential as a community and help
complete this alcohol conversion - Help me tie a drink type to all drinks!
For the duration of this conversion you will have a special command at your
disposal for submitting the drinks and their types into the drink database.
The drink types are a closed set and the command uses only indexes and drink
types in the process for two reasons. One is possible script kiddies trying to
hack the data, the other is to tackle possible problems with the special
characters present in some of the drink names. Without further delay, ladies
and gentlemen, may I present you the 'alconv' command! The impatient ones can
now go and try it out or just bugger off and forget about my ramblings but the
rest of you can read further.
The command itself has a help like any other command that will tell you the
basic stuff but here's some details. With no parameters the command will pick
an unconverted drink from the list and give you it's name and index. At this
point I wish you to dig whatever resources you have available and come up with
a type for the given drink. You'll get a reminder of the available types in
numerous situations so don't worry about it. Once a drink has been submitted
it's off the list, that means every drink can be submitted only once. The
drink types are somewhat limited to keep the system somewhat simple. A basic
guide line on the drink types I used was the Alko catalogue so you can use it
too.
All submissions are logged to counter possible misbehaviour and to debug
possible issues. Of course I don't expect you to do this for free, committing
to helping with this project has its rewards. Also, I tried to clean up the
funky characters from drink names but if I missed some, please send me a bug
report (help bug) about the drink and I'll fix it once the conversion is done.
Now off you go, you've got some drinks to convert.
