Hello Ladies and Gentlemen and those of you who are here against their will.

BatMud had its previous food tune in 2008, six years ago when food and drink
system was changed to something less hardcore. You would no longer lose stats
and it would not bring your hit points back to 1 if you didn't eat or drink.
This quickly made fasting popular not only within religious groups, but even
brute barbarians decided to get into the no-carbs-or-anything diet.

Some time later, cooking skill was introduced and this gave newfound
popularity to gourmands, while some others still rigorously continued to put
the effort to save money from food and put aside those couple batium coins
per week in hopes of getting a brand new Serpentyne sword for Christmas.

However, since 2008 we have had a lot of content which have more or less lost
some usability (satiate person, traditional food items, divine nourishment
ability.. to name a few), because our focus has been in the act of eating
rather than in the character's nutrition state. With the changes that took
away the negatives and cooking bringing the positives, there have been
some groups of races who have felt neglected: the ones who don't eat nor
need to eat.

So, starting from tomorrow's reboot (=29th of March, 2014), we will have some
changes taking place. Being hungry, thirsty, dehydrated or starving will now
have significance in your character in the form of reduced regenerations.
Being hungry or thirsty will give minimal reduction, while with dehydration
or starving the reduction is little bit bigger. However, there won't be any
permanent losses to your character such as losing stats resulting from
dehydration/starvation so this shouldn't bother much those people who log in
just to chat and to yell at downtune posts such as this. :)

The purpose of this change is to restore some of the usability of those game
features which deal with food or thirst. This also puts the racial feature
of "cannot eat normal food" into new light: you can now take the good and the
bad of the food system or you may choose a race which ignores them both.

Hopefully this is a compromise which will give the game a hint of more depth.
