Normally I don't bitch and moan, but it might be a good idea in future if
arches take a little time to think about game balance before okaying
something. The sign in the tp shop says that the '8 sold = 1 buyable' thing
isn't a bug, meaning it was put there for a reason. Not so people can donate
over a hundred euros into various highbies accounts, and get payed 150k per
tp, and in the space of a few days of MiPing go from 5m totals to around 50m
totals. Someone who has just had their totals multiplied by 10 for very little
work at all. Heck, had I spent the 400 euros I donated this way, I would have
had 105m gold, if I MiP that, I suddenly have around 120m totals and am only
11 days old. And that's not including bonus rates for large donations (because
who's going to pay 105m for tps all at once). Personally, I'd much rather have
105m gold than the 3 full boons and 8m or so gold I've gotten, and to me it
just doesn't seem balanced, or fair. Donations aren't to buy a better
character with, donations are just that, donations, and tps are just a small
thankyou, and not meant to be overly powerful. But as they say, Archwizards
are always right, Duke just better hope this disruption of balance doesn't
come back and bite him in the ass.

Surprising how much feedback I got on this, didn't realise people actually
read the flame newsgroup (I know I don't bother). I'd just like to say to
everyone, you're right, boons are undoubtedly worth more than that exp, it's
just a lot harder to see that when you're a newbie. My ego is also a lot more
fragile than that of a highbie, and so got hurt when my a friend suddenly had
4 times my totals from being less than half. So yes, I've learnt the error of
my ways, boons > exp or batcash, and I've just gone to prove that newbies
really are ignorant know nothings :P

You still got a IMHO very valid point though (help trading).
On "the other mud" it was very common to trade EQ for TP's donated in other
players names, this was eventually stopped. I can't see why trading TP's to
gold through donations is any different from trading gold to RL
money/EQ/whatever. And to all people out there ready to flame ME: I'm not
saying it's right/wrong, I'm just saying this dude has a valid point.

I believe I know who this case refers to, as I am probably
the guilty party for letting it happen. Yes, 'help trading'
states that you can not mix real life commerce with bat
commerce, and we try to abide by that. On the other hand,
it is a bit of a grey area, since it's very hard (read:
next to impossible) for us as admins to know what has been
agreed between players behind our back.

For example: player A could owe player B 250 euros after
a long barnight, and they mutually agree that player A will
donate 250 euros for player B.

Another example: player A donates 250 euros for player B as
a loan and expects player B to repay him when his next
salary arrives.

I guess we could disallow donating on behalf of someone
else completely, but we should keep in mind that for whatever
reason (lack of creditcard, very difficult access to a bank
that does reasonable IBAN/SWIFT transfers) there are players
that don't have the techical means to do a donation even if
they want to.

I don't see the how this comparison to RL trading applies. You donate, and
receive TP. One of the ways you can yuse TP is by selling them. We provide
that as a mechanism of the game so it isn't an abuse of the rules. Does that
mean that in essence you can use RL money to receive TP and in turn receive
gold and then in return receive exp? Yes it does. It also means you can use
RL money to receive TP to receive gold to buy a city. Or even receice TP to
receive gold to buy eq etc etc.

It is one thing to perhaps suggest that maybe TP's shouldn't be sellable to
gold, but to use the help tradings rule as justification doesn't really make
any sense.

Hmm, I think perhaps I may have misunderstood the scenario that was being
discussed here. So perhaps my comment was about the wrong thing.
