If people get their stuff stolen because thet didn't bother to get safe
enough castle and guards for them, it's nobody elses fault but theirs.
There has been a lot of shit flying back and forth between the known thieves
and people who think they did wrong. That's fine..

But what really, really pisses me off is some of the admins who have stated
their opinion in the news/channels/private tells, mostly about the massive
playerkilling threat that the thieves are potentially facing.

WTF??

If you go and steal someone's stuff you KNOW they will be pissed off.
You KNOW they will be consequences. Your ASKING for trouble. You are a marked
man/woman untill you've paid _every_ penny back.
Read 'help extortion' for reference.

There hasn't been any excessive playerkilling or anything else going on.
Yet, at least AFAIK.
And already some arches think it's time to interfere, even threaten
the players who are helping out the people who got their stuff stolen.

That is just utter bullshit in my opinion. Big steaming pile of crap.

Yeah yeah, some thieves start to regret and realize that it's not worth
getting pkilled for some newbie shit they got for loot and "generously"
donate them back.
Fine, in my opinion if the victims are OK with that, I think those guys
should be forgiven.
But I find it funny that even BEFORE any excessive playerkilling/
or any other punishment has happened, the victim's defenders are receiving
threats from admins. Oh please. The thieves must be laughing their asses off,
planning to rob the next castle.

This whole discussion before us seems quite odd to me. If there are players
in this mud who choose to go out and steal others possessions thats fine and
dandy...it has always been a part of this game, and most likely into the
future it will remain. What is different in this scenario as compared to the
past is...these thieves are not some powerful group or an elite highbie who
can stand up to the retaliation of many potential pissed off players, which
means that this little group of thieves may potentially have a rough future
ahead of them.

I hope the administration is not looking at this situation and saying to
themselves this is wrong for a group of pissed off players to pkill, demand
repayment, etc because of the actions which these individuals have taken.

My 2 cents, Res

Need throw in my humble opinion, too. You rob a castle, m'kay. The owner gets
pissed, m'kay. You get killed, m'kay.
However, the poor robbed induhviduals tell everyone that 'associating' with
the thieves in any way causes EVERYONE to risk getting pkilled. Not m'kay.

How about this...they won't get killed for associating with thieves. What
about they get killed for helping thieves? I mean...isn't it a crime in most
places to help a criminal even if not helping in the crime itself? Well,
partying with known thieves helps those thieves get more exp, more equipment,
and perhaps even more members to aid continued thieving opportunities.

Second of all, I think the threats to party members aren't direct threats to
those party members as in "I'm going to come kill you specifically". But maybe
it's a "If I see the thief playing, I'm gonna come fuck up his day, and you
might be hit with collateral damage". For example, Player A relocs to zap
BigBadThief with dest wands...well, something goes awry, the wand explodes,
and hurts Mr PartyingWithThief. So lets look at this from the justification
the thieves use..."The people didn't properly protect their equipment in their
castles, so it's right that it's gone". That's fine and good...but the people
partying with the thief knew that they are partying with a target of dest
wands, so it would probably be wise to wear dest sets at all times...if they
don't it's their own fault for not protecting their gear, as it was the fault
of the poorly guarded chest owners.

I am not sure what "stating of opinions" you are taking such offense at.

If you are refering to my posts, I first of all made it clear that it was
only my personal view (not that as an admin) and it was not in any way,
shape or form a threat to anybody.

That said, I fully stand behind what I wrote. BatMUD has always had a
small minority that doesnt play nicely - we have had Netrunners, we
have had Sais etc. And the fact that they have a controversial play-
style (which no doubt pisses off people occasionally) makes for great
stories around a campfire :)

Obviously players who lose their stuff have every right to be pissed
and push for revenge. But revenge on BatMUD is tied to who you know and
nothing else. A random newbie (despite any noble claims in your post)
will most likely just be laughed at if he has his/her stuff stolen.
A newbie who belongs to a large society has a bigger chance of getting
people to stand up for him/her. And based on the first few lines of
Blayke's newspost in general at the beginning of all this, atleast to
me it didn't seem like the revenge was being extracted for the newbies
in the first place.

Now, it is ofcourse perfectly ok to defend your wellknown non-newbie
friend who has lost their eq, but don't make it sound like this is a
crusade for justice to all wronged players. BatMUD "simulates" a medieval
fantasy era, and medieval times are reknowned for their lawlessness.

To my understanding, no admin has done anything or enforced any rules
with regards to either these castle robbings or subsequent pkillings.
But I guess we are not even allowed to voice any private views that may
not be in line with views of the cuddly crusaders.
