I think one good solution to people running around like an idiot looking for
mobs in the out world would be to expand and change the hunting skill (and
possibly the monster lore spell).
Idea: Change the hunting skill so you can 'use hunting at <monster>' and add
to monster lore so it tells you what sort of terrain you expect those monsters
live in.
So say Bert the ranger/beastmaster standing on a road does:
Use hunting at giant donkey
Quote:
Giant Donkey's are not found in this terrain, you find no tracks whatsoever.
Bert asks Bob the knight ?who rides a giant donkey- ?what terrain do you find
giant donkeys in?', (after a couple of sarcastic comments or momma jokes) Bob
tells Bert 'looks like v's or .'s '.
Bert then stands in the nearest valley and does:
Use hunting at giant donkey
- Now that Bert is in the right kind of terrain, the skill could have
different successful outcomes depending on his skill level.
- Low/Medium skill if a mob of the right type is in the game on the same
continent it would give a rough direction.
Quote:
You think you might see some tracks heading off to the south and some to the
east.
- High skill (95%+ or so) if a mob of the right type is in the game on the
same continent it would give the following:
Quote:
You have found some tracks and fresh dung, after tasting the dung you are
sure that you are hot on the train of a giant donkey, you may track the giant
donkey if you use tracking at giant donkey 69.
- Top End skill (105/110+?) At this sort of skill level there would be a
possibility of finding a hidden (read not yet loaded) mob, the game would
choose an unloaded room of the appropriate type on the same continent and load
a random version of the specified mob.
Quote:
You have found some old tracks and dry dung, after sniffing the dung you are
sure that you are hot on the train of a giant donkey, using your advanced
hunting skills you are pretty sure of the direction of its lair. You may track
the giant donkey if you use tracking at giant donkey 1337.
The more powerful the outworld mob, the less likely the top end results will
occur, almost all hunters will be able to find a sparrow, but only the most
skilled (if that) would be able to find even the faintest tracks of a white
buffalo (I hear that buffalo as well as being very light on their feet are
also blessed racially with the ability to wipe tracks).
After all this, the only people running about like idiots in the outerworld
would be the ones that deserve to die to a giant donkey sneakily hidden behind
a rose bush.
