Well, firstly I have no idea why this couldn't have been written on this news
system.
Because of two reasons. The first very obious one if you have any knowledge of
the features of this discussion format. The second equally obious if you have
any knowledge what kind of reader group this discussion board has.
For the first, have you seen much of color in the news lately? You can try by
sending the asci char 27 followed up with [1m, then write some text and then
send [0m with the esc prefix again. Or ways to embend pictures in here except
external linking?
Secondly, do you think the average news reader can undestand suggestions on
more theoretical, abstract level? Because there has been 'discussion' not long
ago where immortals whined about too obsure idea postings, yet there is high
level wizards that admit that they simply skip all ideas that are over dozen
lines or so. No matter how well trough out tought. While pictures tell more
than 1k words, using images seems a good way to approach when consearning the
audience.

For the idea itself, colourcoding is an ok idea, but blocked exits aren't
always so easy to figure out, they cannot be easily deducted as such. I've
been meaning to code doors into the exits command, just haven't gotten around
to it. I was planning on doing it with () or such, but colours can be added
aswell, probably. Just don't hold your breath. I probably wont be making the
distinction between locked and closed doors either, but we'll see how it goes.
Yes, it would be nice if the 'exits' command would use this color coding too,
but the idea was to keep things brief. The results from exits command could be
as verbose as 'Iron door leading to west' that would actually have a meaning as
then the users could finally address the doors without need of commands that do
'unlock door 1-20 with key $*' or 'unlock gate 1-20 with key $*'.
Do you have some kind of reason why not divide doors to locked and unlocked
ones? Because the information alone that there is a door is quite pointless as
the user actually is more intrested if it is a valid exit or not, thus is it
locked or not. If you plan to play the 'But the character does not know if the
door is locked as he has not examned it' then i suggest a third colour for
doors that indicate doors that have not been tested or examned.
That would thus be a 'FU' feature, where a 'easy going/fun' has been left
behind of 'realism'. Similiar to need of 'ship launch' prefix for evey sail,
cruise, paths command. Nicley relism oriented and enforced but kicks
'smoothness' swiftly to balls.
