Uhhuh, I rented a mule, made briddle and saddlebags for it, and it cannot
carry shit. what the hell is the point in that, completely useless animal.
Also, the other mounts you can buy/rent are ridicilously priced compared to
their usefulness, 100k for a horse? must be one fancy fucking horse.
So, could the amount of things the regular mules and suchs can carry. be upped
a bit, and the prices on them other animals lowered a bit. Right now, they are
complete waste of diskspace.

Ulver's post about the cost and effect of rented mounts was a bit confusing to
me. He's right that the little mule and its 100 str can't carry much at all.
He failed to mention that the mule cost 5,000 gold. It's dirt cheap. He also
failed to mention that you could rent one all day for 250 gold, which is even
cheaper. He seems honestly surprised that something that costs so little has
such a minimal effect. Perhaps his opinion would be different if he was lvl 30
or so, the low-level range that the mules were originally intended for, where
the extra space at lower cost would be much proportionally beneficial. The
players that would rent or buy mules are probably the ones that still do their
armor/weapon shopping from the Arelium stores, i.e. the newer and poorer
players.

As for the great cost of the more useful horses, I will freely admit, I made
the costs for them (especailly the "special" horses) much more than I think
they're worth goldwise. Why? To encourage player-player interaction. I've seen
beastmasters out on the prowl, hunting down rare mounts like drakes for
cavaliers with coins to spare. I've seen the good ones go for several hundred
thousand. So why would you pay the same for a "horse+1"? You wouldn't. Or at
least I wouldn't. If I wanted some pack animal I could drag around for storage
space, I'd hire a beastmaster to get me a buffalo or rhino or bear or
something, fit it with saddlebags, and call it a day. Properly re-fit (another
player-player interaction) saddlebags on a bear, combined with the bear's
great strength, will allow it to carry a lot more than a horse.

Oh, and horses throughout the ages have always been expensive.

Well, if mules indeed have "100 str" (not that I have any idea what that means
mount-wise in this game), then why is it not possible to ride a mule as a
representative of Human race? Humans, as per typical fantasy game lore, are
similarly the "average" all-around race in BatMUD. It seems strange to me,
that human would be too big to ride a mule, even that Jesus guy from the
world's most popular storybook did it!
