Can we consider doing something about the stat restore potions?
First off, it seems they drop exceedingly rarely. (news display
guilds.tarmalen 77). The general consensus is that they drop as rarely as a
mudder goes outside.
Secondly, if they do drop I would need to be around in order to buy one from a
fellow player because they are unchestable. Statistically, this is the most
likely route i'm going to get enough restore potions of a certain flavour
before I die of old age irl. This is possibly the worst factor since it means
I have to be present every day, or reachable by phone, or something... It's
really quite unnecessary to expect a player to be online to get these. However
I do understand that one of the reasons these were made unchestable is that
they arn't supposed to be 'common' items. I sincerely doubt, though, that they
are supposed to be rare to the point where players consider reinc to be the
only realistic option to get lost stats back while keeping sanity mostly
intact.
My suggestion is to make these potion drop more often and allow them to be
chestable, but set it up so they go past their expiry date (i.e. rot) after a
few weeks or something, the way alchemist rings rot away over time is
something that comes to mind. This will give a window of opportunity to get
the item to people who need it, and yet continue to facilitate a method of
balancing how common these items present themselves in the game.
