I like this event, but I think its current function is extremely out-of-date
and it could use an upgrade to bring it in line with how things work around
here these days. I see two issues with the event:
1) It is usually very hard to find the meteor. When the event starts, all we
get is a message saying that it landed in (wizard's name) area. Long ago you
used to know the coder of an area by using the bug command, but this is no
longer the case. Some areas can be difficult to identify especially if the
wizard has been long-inactive. Some wizards have many, or very large areas.
Furthermore, there is no way to get this information after the event starts,
except from another player who was online and unidle at that time.
2) The reward for destroying the meteor is extremely marginal relative to what
powers are necessary to destroy it, which guilds have those powers, and the
type of players in those guilds.
The combination of the above 2 issues yields a situation in which the meteor
is rarely destroyed. I suggest all or a combination of the following:
Provide more useful information about the location of the meteor, and/or an
npc to provide information after the event has started. Revise, increase, or
decrease the reward and/or difficulty of the event to match its' intended
target playerbase, and bring the requirements to destroy the meteor in line
with the typical abilities of said target playerbase.
