As some of you might know, there is currently one way to boost your mage
efficiency beyond 100% spells. This is accomplished by raping a monster
in Astacia and gathering vast sets of 'gaiters' which boost major mage
spell% by +4(even 5 with name bonus) and take only one leg slot. Current
spell code gives huge advantage on spell% beyond 100, in form of increased
damage (spell specific) and decreased spell cost (through general spell code).
It is even rumoured that spells beyond 100% haste better.
I'm not aware whether Mardus knew when coding gaiters that he would infact be
creating the single most efficient mage item (maybe apart from Sera's uber
cape)
and put it on a 300k monster. How ever, this is not necessarily a bad thing,
since the monster in question doesn't spew the game with endless crap and
not-so-crap items like Trilloch's zoo, for example.
Overall, having one single item in the game that makes you a better mage than
you fellow mudder, with "endless" possibility (gathering 7x2 gaiters, maybe
even psi type) to rape, creates unnecessary rivalry among mages, in form of
racing to check whether the monster is wearing a gaiter and which type it is.
