As some/most of you may know, I'm trying to give up on mudding, or at least
trying to find substance in my life outside of addictions. It's been a
thrilling ride, all 18 years of it. I've made friends, conncetions that
last an eternity. Had feelings of accomplishment, victory and loss. Even
shed a few tears (?!).
As my last wish I would like the adminstration to consider the following:
**Create a fork copy of BatMUD** (later on in this post referred to as
ForkBAT)
with new player base (starting from zero). This would give new players the
opportunity to shine along with the few old players that have seen it all on
BatMUD and find no more motivation or point in playing. This could be the
true rebirth of (and in) BatMUD, BatMUD Season II.
A few rules that popped into my mind:
- Taskpoint is not a currency on ForkBAT:
There is no taskpoint shop, nor can you donate for tps to ForkBAT,
instead all players are given a "free" pool of 1000 taskpoints
(or some other amount considered by the adminstration, not to make
boons obsolete and not to have need to tune content (races, skill-
and spellmaxes etc)
Also this could give depth in character creation and builds (few
full boons out of the potential pool of dozens of boons
would give nice choice and options)
- There is no way of transfering tps from or to ForkBAT
- Creating a character with the existing name from BatMUD would
need the password of that character in question (pretty
much like Hcbat)
- There would be regular codebase syncs between the two muds (BAT
and ForkBAT), this is to keep updating and upkeeping ForkBAT
as easy on the admistration as possible, no need for separate
wizards
- Wizards of BatMUD can't play ForkBAT (for obvious reasons of
for example having access to code on "real" Bat) unless
there is a way to ensure integrity
- Juggelo's code to give 10x explore exp if finding a room first ever
time by anyone could be added a check (min. 12000 rooms in
the game before it works or some other feasible room amount)
This is to prevent first guy running Wane's Newbie Mountain
from getting a "free" 2M exp.
- I'm sure there's plenty of more points to consider, but couldn't
think of any more offhand.
I think this could really be the new age of BatMUD and bring new
players to the game. One concern might be funding... If ForkBAT
really takes wings and becomes the TRUE Batmud Season II and has
no donations in form of taskpoints, how can Bat ry fund it's
operations.
Any way, this is my legacy and I'll leave it up to the adminstration
to endorce and to judge.
-Broetchen, hopefully on Season II (post Bat-o-ca-lyptic era) of his life
