Does anyone know if you shape change to say an owl does it change your exp rate
and are there any hidden negatives?

1. Most alternate forms including and not limited to the ones from this spell
have a 50% experience rate.
2. Shrikes and Bears cannot cast spells, and thus cannot cast restore at
themselves. Unicorns and owls cannot use skills, which doesn't hurt all that
much except maybe the lack of ceremony.
3. Owl and to a lesser extent unicorn are popular against some desting mobs.
Owl also has feathers for the gust of wind spell. Shrike and bear are useless
unless you need to pass some kind of stat check and don't mind asking for a
restore. You do more damage with a couple of despanas than you can in bear or
shrike form.
4. Like many druid spells, shapechange has very few and very specific uses.
