BatMUD Forums > Guilds.squire > Is guided strike broken (or will it just be me)?

I reinced to beastmaster-kharim quite recently, mostly to test the dripping
fangs skill which basically is tied to guided strike and feral attack skills.
I have been now testing guided strike quite a lot in off and def mode, and I
pretty much start to think that the skill sucks big time. The idea behind it
is cool and the mount hit messages are nice but...

...The hit ratio of the skill is AWFUL. I have tested now two quite decent
mounts; ancient ice drake and frost gryphon. I have the skill currently at
103% and in most of the "test" off-parties I have had charisma around 120. Is
my charisma too low, do I need to do all the beastmaster quests, is my mount
not a good choice, is my luck too low...any ideas?

This is what I see most of the time:

"You are prepared to do the skill.
You whip your mount, trying to drive it into action.
Your mount seems baffled."

You are prepared to do the skill.
You whip your mount, trying to drive it into action.
Mount-X tries to claw target-Y, but misses.
Your mount seems baffled."

Pros/Cons:
+ For me the skills seems to go off in (most of the time) 1 round.
+ Fail or miss with the skill does not take any ep, which means I am mostly at
full ep all the time in off-party!!!1! Only noobs need to camp!
- The mount seems not to react (skill fail?) or hit (skill miss) about nearly
4 out of 5 skill uses, and I have seen fail/miss happen more than 10 times in
row. Which would mean that I did around 250 damage in 20 rounds.
- It is quite boring and/or frustrating to bang the skill macro key every or
every second round to start the skill and see it miss.
- Using the skill requires a player to wield a whip instead of some real
weapon.
- People laugh at me (not with me) for not hitting anything.

If the skill is not "broken" how about something of the following to make it
at least semi-useful:
- Make the skill hit more often, and maybe add a round to the skill duration
to balance things.
- Make the skill not require the use of a whip. I hate to be violent at my
mount!
- Make the skill not to be affected by the target monster's level (not sure if
this is the case).

P.S. Could all the whip type of weapons be added to work with the mount
skills. I would assume that a chain whip would have the same effect on a mount
as a "whip".
