I have a dded a new feature to news (it is mode-independent).
If you want to search database of articles in a certain group, you can issue
"news search <group> <pattern>" command, where <pattern> is a word, a part of
a word or a collection of words.

Note, that search will be performed in the _subject_ of articles, since
searching in bodies appeared to be lag-monstrous.
Also, results will be displayed in the view of <aticle_id>,<from>,<subject>,
so you can use "news display <group> <article_id>, to display one particlular
article without actually entering reader.

P.S. "show summary reset" option was implemented yesterday too, it will reset
your daily stats without leaving the game.
