I'd like to reply to a few anti-American posts here. This little essay might
offend some (which was not my intent I might add), however I feel these views
need to be aired publicly for my own sake. Furthermore, I hope this post
starts an open intellectual forum on the subject, and any who'd like to
comment, counter or reply are welcome (although all posts from the idiot
Acidia will be ignored).

American Foreign Policy has come under attack recently in the European press
by our so-called "allies". I'd like to respond with a few points of my own,
as an independant American citizen, and I'd like to hope that I speak for a
great number of my fellow citizens. Firstly, we in America do not wish to go
to war. Let me reiterate this point: we do not wish war. Americans are a
peaceful people and in general, we wish to be left alone to pursue our
personal ambitions and dreams, and to exercise our LIBERTY, which is the tenet
of the American philosophy. That being said, we have been repeatedly drawn
into conflicts which are not of our making, and after much bloodying, bombing,
mayhem, etc, we have learned a valuable lesson from history: that the pursuit
of liberty requires an equal and even more certain commitment to the ways of
war. Need I remind you of the two EUROPEAN conflicts that America has been
drawn into and which was not of our own making? Need I remind of you the
thousands of American lives that paid the ultimate price for YOUR freedom?
Even now you would languish under the lash of tyranny had it not been for our
strength. You people constantly needle us for the

Jesus christ what a collection of unbelievable crap :)

To start with Blayke's post: just because the US took part in
WW2, doesn't mean that people in Europe can't state their
opinions about injustice caused by the US. Even if you save
me when I'm bleeding in the gutter, I still won't have to
tolerate it when you decide to beat up an innocent old lady.

Joseph Stalin died in 1953, but the cold war kept going until
after the Reagan era. Communism as an ideology doesn't imply
that there can be no liberty. In many South American countries
there socialist movement was born from the will of _gaining_
liberties, and as the US government assisted more capitalist
dictators into powers, the liberties were lost.

The hatred against communism (and the USSR hatred for capitalism)
was a perpetual machine, founded upon a very lose logic that
everything that is different must be evil. Nobody could speak
up against the insanity in fear of being labeled a communist
(or a capitalist), which meant political suicide. So instead
the US government built upon the "fear of communism", just as
the "war against Terror" is being used by the republican party
(I am sure the Democrats would have done pretty much the same,
had they been in a position of power) today to offset the bad
handling of civil liberties, economic unjustice within the
country.

The Taliban had taken over Afghanistan after the country had
been in chaos for decades, and the Taliban rule rooted out
most of the civil war (save for the small Northern Army). The
Taliban also placed bans on the harvesting of opiats. Sure,
there were civil liberties issues in the country, as it
followed a strict Islamic law, but that was not the reason
the US attacked Afghanistan. Afghanistan was assaulted because
they refused to bend over to the US, and would not directly
hand over the US government claimed were suspects for 9/11,
without being shown any shred of evidence to back up the claim.
The Taliban also offered to expel the leaders of Al Qaeda to
stand trial in any other Islamic country. The US refused, and
instead proceeded to bomb the already suffering country.

Now the US government has again turned its eyes on Iraq. We
are constantly being reminded what a terrible monster Saddam
Hussein is, how he has killed his own people. The fact that
this cleansings were conducted against Kurds who (some of
them) committed treason and aided Iran during the Iraq-Iran
war is not mentioned, nor is it mentioned that this cleansing
took place in 1988, as Hussein enjoyed full support of the
US government. According to Ronald Reagan, Hussein was "our
kind of guy".

The real issue in Iraq is not weapons of mass destruction, nor
will Hussein ever become a new Hitler (I don't understand why
people want to make parallells between every ruler they don't
like and Hitler). He's cornered, his country is starving under
UN embargoes, his army is poor shape, and US+UK enforced no-fly
zones (which aren't UN approved) ensure that he has no air
support if he decides to attack. But despite this humiliation
he refuses to bend over for the US, and this arrogant behaviour
along with memories that "bad arabs killed our people on september
11th" is what makes it a high priority to have a "regime change".
Since the US government has no chance of ever rooting out all
"terrorism" with force, since violence always breeds more violence,
they decide to take whatever visible action against anybody who
is "against us" (even if there is no risk towards US security)
to keep the voters back home happy.

It's arrogant statements that one drop of American blood is worth
more than a million lives of Americas enemies which feed the wars.
The million "enemies" are defending their homes, their cultures,
their families, their vision of freedom (yeah, the capitalist
culture is not the ultimate freedom) against complete westernisation.
Are they right in killing any innocent US civilians? Hell no. Are
we right in forcefeeding our values on them, exploiting their
resources for our corporations and killing them just to ensure a
re-election? Hell no.

If the US was invaded by Mexico (or Canada!) and would be in need
of help, I am quite sure that Europe (and others) would gladly
repay the moral debt of WW1 & WW2. Sitting idle while the US army
bombs third-world nations is not a method of repayment.
