Game balance is a useless point in this legitimate whine. You could just as
wlel make item damage more frequent and hit only one item a time. Clearly it
is an old bug or an oversight that you can and naturally will cover up for.
Balancewise it might be ok now but in on way it is 'realistic' or in any way
funny. For players it's very much equal to one item taking damage more often -
but the latter would at least 'feel more right'.

If I had a point it's long gone now.

Having seen the code, I can assure you it is neither an old bug nor an
oversight. It is in there deliberately. Also, like I hinted at before, the
idea may have been to make sure those items in the back row swap sets take
damage too. A lot of backrow items tend to be lacy, frilly things that rip to
shreds in a mild summer breeze, and are worn by people with as much combat
sense as a wooden spoon. Tank items tend to be hard, dense items of diamond or
mithril that you can stomp on for an hour without significant strain.
(Although I am aware this is not 100% the case). Tanks take a whole lot more
hits, however, and making them pay a ton of money more than their support
casters for the same eq and exp may not seem fair to a lot of tanks. The "hit
all" strikes may have been there as a step towards fixing that, by insuring
that the mages (etc) in the back pay just as much for repairs as the tanks in
the front. Or perhaps not. In either event, the "hit all" strikes were in the
game for a long time, and will probably remain for a long time.

Maybe make constats swapping to consume eq and let the combat sense affect for
it highly.
