There have been a lot of recent posts concerning the tune-pole applied to the
process of chest creation. Since I have general not pursued chest creation as
it being too unrewarding a task from a time investment perspective, I haven't
had much to say on the matter. But now I am tier2 step7 and Ruuben wants me to
make him a 10 slot chest (undoubtedly to keep his collection of Bat-Smut
magazine in).
I figure the tunes were introduced to slow the flow of chests into the game or
tune some who were making "too much" cash doing it. I'm not privy to that
information or the impact those successful chest makers were having on the mud
as a whole. All I can and want to offer is my observations from the
perspective of someone relatively new to the guild, having joined after most
of the chest creation tunes had been introduced.
I spent the better part of the last three days attempting to create a chest
for the fore-mentioned Ruuben. This is about the 5th or 6th chest I've
attempted to make. I have creation at 70% (having received no improvement from
any of the chests I've made), carpentry at 94%, and +25 dex eq set, and began
the effort by sacrificing an 800k item to eliminate as many negative factors
as possible. 3 days, 1 large skeleton, 55 elm logs, 30 ebony logs, and 1
fumble short of turning it all into a pile of sawdust, I completed a mightily
ebony-reinforced elm chest with a capacity of TWO slots. I am pained to even
estimate how much I could have made idling responding to requests for
repairs/surgeries/etc rather than wasting my time in such a futile effort.
If the powers that be want to control the flow of chests or cash from chest
making, I have one suggestion, remove the process of creation from the guild
all together. Have the hardware store sell completed chests. Merchants can
contribute to the process by using bargain to get customers a discount. Anyone
who played back when everyone lived in a 40x40 grid of castles will no doubt
recognize this model.
As it is this concludes my efforts at chest creation. Alas, this leaves poor
Ruuben without adequate storage for his porn collection, but maybe Nastassja
will loan him the 3 slotter I made for her 3 weeks ago.

After one chest and done so perfectly to 2 slots I really don't see how
your opinion has any weight on the situation. Chest creation is fine.

The problem is that you don't know what you are doing. You pretty much prove
the exact reason for the existence of the so called tune pole. That reason
to a good chest?
earn came up with the idea that saccing some 800k item is the "key" ingredient

Wow what the fuck, the editor really mangled my post for some reason... here

The problem is that you don't know what you are doing. You pretty much prove
the exact reason for the existence of the so called tune pole. That reason
being so that people like you, who don't know what they are doing and have
spent little effort in learning and experimenting, do not crank out 10 slot
chests.

Your post reaffirms that things are probably "right". And I must say, who on
earn came up with the idea that saccing some 800k item is the "key" ingredient
to a good chest?
