I think we should have a skill called 'note scribing' or some such.

The purpose of this skill would be to write a small note and attach it to
equipments. Why I think this would be neat, is that i don't like the way
labels are used now to remember the stats on items, which makes them look
quite ugly. Labels should be used to help handling, not for what they are
mainly used now. The problem is that those labels are shown all the time.

Note scribing could work so that it would show a line like following when
looking at the item:

There is a small note attached to it.

Then you could "look at note on item" to see what it says. This way you could
write on note whether it is ancient or the names of those who made it and what
stats it has and so on and the information is still accessible but relatively
hidden.

The amount of lines could be small, something like one for every 20% of skill,
resulting in max 5 lines or so.

I was thinking that the skill could work a bit like chest lock creation in a
way that you would need a miniscule amount of same material as the eq is and
you could attach and remove those notes with the same skill.

This would also enable us to charge a bit more from the skill, I was thinking
more along lines of 15k than 2k that you can get from labeling.

The only drawback that I can see is that it might decrease the amount of
needed identifies, but if we keep the price up I don't see that as a much of a
threat. Identify is still needed for newly made items.

Well, what do you think, is there a need for such a skill?

I like this, but if someone actually runs off to code it, please call it \"engraving\" or such.

Let's call it pesumerkki. I can see it now:
"Mithril Breastplate of Utter Uberness should be washed at 40c lest it
shrinks. After such accident it can only be worn by midgets. If you have any
concerns regarding this fabric please call to 0800-OMOINFO"
