problem with the way alloying used to work, was as duke said, the ability to
produce rare items in large quantities at will. A player could easily
mine/amal/refin/alloy enough materials in one day to make 1000's of kg of
diamond, a material that is suppose to be rare, but by nature of the
multi-alloy option, made it more common than iron almost. Future tunes will
prolly be necesarry to get it perfect, but it's a step in the right
direction.
I really want to meet this merchant that is mining/amal/refining/alloying
thousands of kg of material in one day. I just don't see anyone doing that
much material. Also, the alloying of diamond is a bit less trivial than
you want to make it out. I agree, it was too easy, but it isn't the get
500kg of junk and POOF! we have diamond that seems to be the implication
of your post.

The merchant is a powerful yet humble merchant named Elwoodtest, with approx
30 meg in his merchanting, and he was able to make 1000kg of diamond in a day
with no help from me. Granted, only few might know how, but it is possible.
