Tune skill- and spellmax boons to 2/3 as con and str are. Then more skillmax
and spellmax to secret societies. Those are vital stats just like con, and us
boonless would be happy, that maybe someday all boons are gone and tuning this
game would be easier when all of us are in same line.

I have takken a vow not to post anymore news posts because i realize all i do
is spam, so its a self-induced ban. however the sight of this perticular
article disturbed me so much i had to come out and bash it. you really think
there should be no boons? Do i really need to go further, and explain? your
absurd. Furthermore, the original statement about skill/spell maxes and such,
i agree for the most part that its crucial- but to make skills and spells
effective, you need the stats. the stats have been tuned already..

Maybe there should be boons that you make by playing the game, just like eq
and exp. It's pretty stupid that you can start the game, donate 1k euros and
rock more than lvl100 without boons. I didn't want to explain this, but.. of
course the player who plays more and try to learn all secrets of game, rocks,
so boons are not everything, but without boons you maybe HAD to do that before
you reach lvl100. Maybe I have to explain this little more, but let's see
replys first :). And about that, that stats affect to skills, do you see big
difference with dex affecting dodge/parry, dex affect more to avoid than those
skills.

Sorry about my bad same words repeating text.

i have over 3 full boons, i have never donated, there are quite a few other
people who have several boons who have never bought them for rl money.
you can get boons without donating, just like xp and eq.

So, if we just remove all boons that have made by donating, there would only
few players with boons. And I would accept that because they made those with
hard work. And that wouldn't unbalance the game too much. Seems that nowadays
wizzies seem to give more tps from anything because allmost everyone allready
got many tps. So respect to you Laaban that you have collected your boons by
bug reports and stuff.

Hehe, this game is like those collecting card games, who has the most thick wallet, wins. :)

And of course, this game made for having fun, but usually that fun comes from rocking more than most people. :)

AND do not take this text too seriously, these are my opinions, and I keep playing and try to advance even if boons would go up (well, I get more exp when partying with boonpile players :).

while at it, maybe start getting rid of exp/equipment also, so that us expless
(and shitty equipped!) would be happy, so that they'd be gone someday and we
could all be "in the same line".
hmm, sorry, maybe this shoulda been in flame

Laaban, what the hell is the matter with you? You don't sound like a good
little socialist at all! Don't you know that everyone is exactly equal, or
they should be? Thus anything people have as an advantage over others should
be taken away so it does not hurt someones self-esteem or make them sad.
Afterall, the point of Batmud is to make sure everyone is happy at all times
and never has a bad feeling about themselves or anyone else. Personally I
would like to see exp redistribution. Everyone needs to have the same amount,
otherwise game is unfair. Get your little red book out and read some more!

Boons are here to stay, live with it. Period. They are vital for both the
development of the game (awarding for bugreports) as for the operation of
the game (financing hardware purchases and administrative services from
third parties, tho technically the taskpoints are not bought).

To me, the goal of the boon/non-booned balance is that every aspect of the
game should be (atleast in theory) achievable without boons, but boons can
and will make the journey there a whole lot easier. Hence, I will only
tune boons when/if they substantially upset the game balance, making some
combo (say defensive tanks) completly unplayable without them.

While this may not please all non-booned players, that's just the way it
is. Without the financial contributions of our players, BatMUD would
probably not be running.

So you are saying that no-one will \"donate\" if you won\'t get anything from it?
Donate means that you give something without getting something in return.

Ok, now many donates that 1000 euros (or even more!), it isn\'t enought that everyone would donate only 100 euros (if you don\'t get any tps from it)? And they will donate it if you say that it\'s very necessary that we can have new hardware. Does that machine take SO much money that you need those daily 1k euro donations? :)

I'm not saying that no-one donates, we've receive donations from people
who no longer actively play the game because of time constraints, but
just wanted to show their appreciation for giving them a home on the
Internet for the past decade. I'm saying that it would be unfair to
suddenly remove of tune down boons for those that have donated, if it's
not an absolute must for the balance of the game.

I don't know what you've been smoking, but if we'd be receiving 1000 euro
donations on a daily basis, we'd probably have salaried staff that would
work fulltime on bat. Obviously, that is not the case. Investments from
last year included not only upgrades to our "production servers" (i.e.
tiamat and narcuul which hosts hcbat), but also an Opteron server (for
porting the drivers to so we have an upgrade path) as well as two other
servers for developing and testing loadsharing in the game.

It would be nice if everything in the world was free, alas - that is not
a very realistic dream. So you can cry about it, but the boons are not
going anywhere.

Donate means you give something without getting something in return? You've
been mudding too much mate. You propably think people donate to Georrge Bushes
electoral campaign just cause they have a kind heart? If you've been mudding
so much that you can't afford to donate, thats your own fault. Getting tp's
for one boon without donating can't be an impossible task for someone who muds
so much he/she can't afford to donate =P.

Yeah, world is bad and we are all gonna die. And everyone wants it to be like that.

Yes, I have mudding too much, but I am not the only one.

And you say getting boons isn\'t hard, yes it isn\'t, it\'s too easy :). So my point wasn\'t that I don\'t have boons. But my point was that so many has boons that everything is tuned so that boonbies do not rock too much, so soon you have to have boons that you can even play :) (maybe little over reaction :)

But yes, I do not whine about this again (you can start you celebration), because Gore pointed me out that donates are desperately needed and there wouldn\'t be enough if you don\'t get something from it. So let it be, I am happy, *checking my wallet* Maybe I donate someday.
