I, for one, care. Yes, playing a game should not be a
horribly painful process where you spend hundreds of
hours and gain nothing. But nor is a game interresting
if there are no challenges.
I don't mind seeing highbies kill eqmobs that have good
items. I would like to see a lot more midbie parties
do eq runs against midbie eq monsters (a pity there's
very few such monsters that are killable at decently low
levels).
What I DO mind, and I've said it before, is to have
those kick-ass items make their ways in masses to people
who have no way of gaining them from the monsters. I may
be a bit of a RPG freak, but magic artifacts are not to
be sold as commodity goods at local bazaars. A vorpal is
a vorpal, and I'll be damned if every newbie who has in
his boredom made himself a few megs of gold will have one.
Ok, so that's just my opinion as a grumpy old arch. But
I believe that in the long run people will agree that a
game in which there are no proper challenges ("Oops, I
lost my vorpal. Well I'll just reinc to merchant and do
some more money and buy a new one!" or "Oh cool, wiz XYZ
made a new area that has really cool items. I'll just
buy it from <INSERT HIGHBIE HERE> when he does his daily
eq-tour.") will get dull and dry out. To make a very
crude and bad analogy - we don't hand out free-exp-buttons
either.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this new wear & tear
resolution will work out. I hope people will have fun,
but above all I hope that their fun will last beyond a
few months (during which all eq mobs will be killed daily
and chests no doubt stashed with worthwhile items). Just
a few cents from a worried archwuzz.
