In my opinion one solution would be to keep the named-items-don't-break -tune
in place, AND at the same time increase the damage non-named items take. This
has most of the desired effects:
1) people are encouraged to do their own eq
2) satisfaction of being able to keep and use the items you made
3) interest to buy non-named items will decrease
4) non-named items that are sold will not be a problem for very long
Of course item tradeability will be a problem etc but, that is still very
acceptable considering the alternatives.
This approach requires few things though. First, newbies/midbies must be
able to kill something useuful, so that they don't have to rely on highbie
made eq. Second, monsters should in general be kept "killable" by a wider
range of players, so people can go and try to get the items they want/need
themselves. Third, as has been suggested before many times, highbies should
have other means to fund their reincs and/or other money needs than just
selling stuff to newbies. Be it then guild level costs payable with exp
and/or monsters with money etc.
