A moment of truth...
First, thank you to those people who have taken the time to write
feedback and constructive ideas about what is needed, if any, about
the current eq situation. Alas, there seems to be as many opinions
about this as there are players.
After speaking to some players and some wizards and arches, it seems
that there are quite a lot of killable eq monsters in the game. The
issue is that monsters which do not have top notch eq are not considered
as viable eq monsters or worth doing. The monsters that have been listed
to me as "next to impossible to kill" all have capped items and have
hence also been coded to be damn challenging.
The issue here is that the people who have been complaining how hard
it is to make eq, are the people who consider only the best items to be
proper eq (i.e. an amulet that gives +7 wis is not considered "good
enough to be worthwhile", it has to give the maximum bonus), because
that's what they were used to getting all the time. From a wizards
perspective it's a nightmare when only capped items are "good enough".
I'm not going to make monsters with capped items any easier to kill.
They are and should be demanding, and they are finally in such a tune
that they aren't being killed daily (compare to the times when certain
big eq mobs were killed in 3 runs). If any monsters should be made
easier to kill, it would be midbie monsters with midbie eq that is
targeted to people in the level range of 30-130 megs of exp, tho such
monsters would require protective measures that prevent the same highbie
horde from killing them over and over again (for reputation or easy exp).
So the remedy for the situation: if you cannot put in as much effort as
it takes to kill the top monsters with the best eq in the game, or aren't
good enough (many failed eq runs lately have failed due to bad leadership
or because the party didn't understand how the modified monster worked),
then it's not reason enough to downgrade the monster. Move on to easier
targets, that have lesser items until you can compete with the best.
Hence, I will not modify the major eq monsters or any items at the
moment. The battlesystem will change in the near future, and that
will change quite a lot about how eq runs are handled. To spend a
huge amount of time tuning eq mobs right now or redoing the magic bonus
system seems like a waste of resources to me. Atleast for the time
being.
