I suggest changing the first part of the boon and bane help file to read
somewhat more clearly. I have written what I consider to be a better way of
stating how the costs for boons operates. I don't know if I'm the only one
with issues understanding exactly how it works, but if I'm not, this rewrite
my help others who were drawn into some confusion while reading the help.
Without further babble...
What are Boons and Banes
Boons are improvements to your character that you can buy with task points.
Banes are the opposite to boons. You can trade banes for boons or enhance
one of your existing boons.
Boons usually have a variable efficiency and can be bought a little at a time
to gain full power. The more boons you have the more expensive your boons
will become.
A bane can be used to buy 10 tp's worth of boons or to increase the efficiency
of a boon that you have by adding 10% to it (a 10% boon will become a 20%
boon). What banes you have available depends on your characters background.
There are four levels of boons. They are, in order of efficiency:
Tiny, Little, Medium, Full
To obtain a boon for any given efficiency level, you must have a boon for the
previous level. For example, a Little requires a Tiny, and a Medium requires a
Little.
The cost of boons increases as you buy more of them. Each level of a boon
(Tiny, Medium, Full, etc) counts as one(1) boon. So, if you were to buy one
full boon, you would spend 10+20+40+80 taskpoints. This amounts to 150
taskpoints for one(1) full boon. In this process you have just purchased
Four(4) total boons. One Tiny, One Little, One Medium, and One Full.
If you wished a second full boon, you would add 10+20 taskpoints (bringing you
to six(6) boons total). Then add 80+160 taskpoints because you have exceeded
six(6) boons and are in between seven(7) and twelve(12). This cycle continues
for any number of boons that you wish to purchase.
Tiny Little Medium Full
Efficiency 10% 25% 50% 100%
With one bane 20% 35% 60% 110%
Cost (TP's) 10 20 40 80
With one bane 0 10 30 70
Tiny Little Medium Full
Cost (TP's) 20 40 80 160 (7 to 12)
30 60 120 240 (13 to 18)
40 80 160 320 (19 to 24)
etc.
I apologize for any rough formatting, I'm sure that it can be remedied if this
were to actually be adopted by a wiz.
