Clarus first made her appearance in Apple's Cairo Font in 1984 it was the
first "dingbats" font ever. Hit the 'z' key and you get Clarus, but she wasn't
called Clarus just yet.

In 1986 Clarus made it to the print setup screen to show different page
layouts. And since then she's been used in all Apple's printing software
(except OS X).

In 1987 the dogcow officially becomes Clarus. She was the logo for the
printing development teams internal e-mail. She made her first public
appearance at the 1988 World Wide Developers Conference on badges worn at the
"Debugging Labs" sessions. The CEO at the time John Sculley wore it during his
keynote speech as well.

In 1989 the printing team made a technote for April Fools' Day. It clairified
certain matters regaurding the dogcow like it's name "Claurs" as a joke to a
project that was lagging behind called "Claris". Later, Clarus became the
spinning cursor in the DiskCopy 6 application.

In 1993 Apple installed 2D scupltures representing celebrated icons from MacOS
in the garden of Apple Campus. The scupltures were removed in 1998 to be
restored (www.bat.org/u/RE). They have yet to make it back to the garden
however, nobody really knows why.

Since the move to OS X Clarus isn't seen anymore, he is there though buried
deep within the system. The only way to actually see him is finding the file
in the system. Such a bad way to retire such a nice dog.

Also, in the program Ircle (irc chat client for the Mac) they use the 'Moof'
sound for when downloads complete to keep the Clarus legacy going.
