A journalist assigned to the Jerusalem bureau has an apartment overlooking the
Western Wall. Each day as she looks out her window, she sees an elderly
Jewish man praying vigorously.
Thinking he would be a good subject for an interview, the journalist goes down
to the Wall one morning, and introduces herself to the old man. "Sir," she
asks, "I've seen you come to the Wall every day. How long have you being
doing so, and what do you pray for?"
"I have come here to pray, every day, for over 25 years", the old man replies.
"In the morning I pray for world peace and for the brotherhood of man. I go
home and have a cup of tea, and then I come back, and very, very important, I
pray for peace and understanding between the Israelis and Palestinians."
The journalist is awestruck. "How does it make you feel to come here every day
for 25 years and pray for these wonderful things?" she asks.
The old man grimaces. "Like I'm talking to a fucking wall."
