I for one does not agree that it would be a good idea to change Bat more and
more towards a game where the "effort" counts. One of the things i like alot
about this game is that you can get somewhere using different methods or
skills. Not only the skill in actual gameplaying counts.
I for one has accomplished most of my "success", not during hardcore gaming
and figuring the nifty stuff of the game out by myself, but by getting good
friends and a reputation as a nice and fair player. Thats a different kind of
effort, but it defenitely takes time and some sort of skill to establish a
large number of good contacts and friends.
Ruthlessly slaughtering moneymobs for hours and hours w/o loosing interest in
the game is some sort of skill, or at least ability, also. To this point i
have appreciated that the game itself does not decide what kind of
playerskills is valued more than the other.
I hope it remains that way in some sense.
Innuendo
To some degree I have to agree with Innuendo. Where Gore had a very strong,
and good point, one of the points of this game that I have always loved, and
honestly what still keeps me playing today, is that sort of free form
structure BAT has. BAT, at least as far as my knowledge goes, was never more
than an interface to interact with people and crush text monsters. No RPG
rules, no long winded quests that were an integral part of playing. All of
that is there, but its not force fed to you. Personally I like all of the
recent flavor of the new guilds, and I am a sucker for interesting and
creative areas that are complex enough to keep me puzzled for weeks, but there
are many times I am just looking for something to kill some time with, and I
would hate to see that free form aspect of the game removed for 'style' and
'flare' and become no different than everquest without the pretty pictures.
In short, the fact that BAT never took itself too seriously is what attracted
me to it the most.
But what do I know, really.
