I am not sure if I am missing the point, or what the case is here, so I would
appreciate someone taking a few minutes and maybe mudmailing me an answer.
What exactly is so wrong, or bad, about the power hour tune that people are so
willing to leave over it. I mean, honestly, is it that much of an offence? I
just do not understand at all. My personal views aside, I just want to
understand how so many people think this is the worst tune ever. As far as I
can tell, it hurts no one. It removes nothing from the game, there is no
global prot that makes things dest, I can really so no major downside to it.

I am honestly impartial of whether it goes, or stays, as I am with pretty much
every tune here. I play for my reasons, and I will not mock any reasons
anyone else plays. But if someone, anyone, could explain to me why you see
this tune as being so horrible, I would appreciate it. I have heard all sorts
of flames on it, but I'll be lying if I said I saw one that really explained
WHY its a bad idea.
Flames go to your mom, answers to me, please note the group it is in.

Batmud is a social game whereas powerhour is an antisocial feature. Let me
clarify a bit: You can do lots of things in batmud; exp, eq, quests,
reputations, merchanting, exploring and so on. Now this feature means that if
you do pretty much any of the other things before you do exp you miss out on
"free" exp. Therefore people just don't like to help each other do those other
things, instead they feel an obligation to go and get their "free" exp and
then maybe do something else. This robs the game quite a lot of its
attraction.

I put the free in "":s because although it may seem free it isn't, levelcosts
91-100 were already increased by the same amount that you can get that
powerhour exp in a year or so. 'So what? I'm not level 100' you may ask, but
it won't stop there. That extra exp will keep flowing in and now sooner than
later it will inflate players expworth to the point where costs will be
increased again. Just to compare things, a level 100 thrikhren tarmadruidnun
with spells at about max cost 250M 7-8 years ago or so when level 100 cost
~150M and max cost for skill/spell% for 229999, now that exp is not even
enough for just the levels. To keep up with the increasing costs you are
supposed to be a good boy and do your powerhour exp.

In conclusion, those that don't like powerhour are the ones that don't like
the idea of the game forcing a rigid style of playing on them, 'First you exp,
then you may do something else and don't bother asking anyone's help either.'
and those that think it's just unfair that players now get double exp without
having to work for it like everyone else had to. I may have missed a couple of
more reasons too but those are my reasons for not liking it.

A few things about Geryon's post:
* You refer to more exp flowing into the game. How significant is this extra
exp? It is the equivalent to playing an extra hour per day, so the people who
were playing 10h/day are really only getting a relatively small percentage
gain through powerhour. Those are the people I'd imagine are pushing the top
end limits.
* You say that the powerhour reduces interaction...well, people still need to
party together to get their powerhour fully optimal. They just need to exp for
an hour before doing that other stuff. As for merchants, ressers/raisers, etc,
their powerhour isn't ruined by doing their things, so they can interact as
normal (disclaimer, i'm not 100% sure on the ress/rais, but it seems that it
doesn't trigger powerhour -- I know that mip and explore don't trigger
powerhour either. Just seems to be monster bashing that does it).
