is only a fraction of what is needed in the
WoW "quest". In total, more than 3.6 million
items need to be collected per server

Oh, and Magtheridon, the server I play on,
is ~63% done with the collection effort (best
in Europe), some crazy yanks are over 85% done.

Bah, fools, all of you suggesting such simple ranger quests.

Quests such as "make 1000 torches" are cuddly, coddling quests that show mercy
and compassion -- unlike an arch, but then, Duke has a soft spot for the
newbies. See, with such a quest, you _know_ when you'll be done. 1000 tries.
End of quest.

What a more diabolic, evil, and generally more BatMUDly version would be to
try for a result that only happens one time in 1,000. See, that way, a hapless
mortal could try 1,000 times and STILL not get it! Now that's fun for the
whole family!

And who, you ask, would be on the receiving end of such a demonic quest? As if
you had to ask. Name another guild that has to make a perfect blue-white
diamond with an unaimable skill. Yep, merchants. Kudos to Melemkor for (a)
being an evil bastard and (b) reminding us once again the A #1 Rule of BatMUD:
not a day passes in the life of a merchant when he or she isn't screwed.
