In recent news. the auction site eBay has recently banned the sale of all
"virtual property", such as characters created for online games (WoW, EQ,
etc).
The issue appears to be the possible legal issues surrounding what could be
called "intellectual property" of the server company on which the character
resides.
We here at BatMUD applaud this decision to take the wussy way out, rather than
engage in a sumo-like battle between two of the biggest internet juggernauts
the world has ever seen (winner faces Google in the finals). We would also
like to remind eBay that the following are considered intellectual property of
Bat.Ry, Inc., and should be covered by the same decision:
-- boatcon
-- campcon
-- suffeli (in any context not referring to the actual candy itself)
-- mrrgrr
-- all instances of the verb "licking"
-- HUGE(tm)
-- damcrit
-- whimrm
-- pcity
-- drunbk and all powerfully
-- saccing
-- slovenian war hero
-- xirtameht
-- summonkill
-- boobs for tps
-- any instance of jumping a campfire
-- any instance of turtles biting crotches
-- the entire country of Canada
-- newbie mines
-- boxes that explode
-- hot potatoes that explode
-- wands that explode
-- pretty much anything that explodes without the aid of mentos or
alka-seltzer
-- smurville
-- any on-the-job accidents involving mining, woodworking, metalcraft, or
furniture
-- dying more than once
-- "come on Sharon, how's about a little kiss"
-- and most importantly, Fluffy the sheep.
