The following things did _not_ win:
-- three movies is not a trilogy. There are, for example, three Street Fighter
movies, but they are not in any kind of series or order. Therefore, they did
not wint. This also applies to Final Fantasy.
-- a movie that has not yet been released is not a movie yet. Resident Evil 3
might be in the process of being made, but until it is made, it is not a
movie, and therefore, no trilogy. Same applies to Mortal Kombat and Tomb
Raider.
-- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a comic book first, and therefore, even if
all three movies were a series (which they aren't) they're still disqualified
because none of them are based on a video game.
-- TV shows, made for TV movies, and straight to DVD movies were not
specifically restricted, but should have been. This further rules out Final
Fantasy, which even in Japan never hit the big screen 3 times.
I'm still 100% surprised that Pokemon won. However, technically, it was a
video game 8 months before it was a card game. True, the movies are mostly
based on the TV show, but the chain of what-follows-what still leads it all
back to video game first. I didn't think _anything_ had done "video game
first, movie trilogy second" but you learn something every day.
