A few things re: pirate thread...
1) You _can_ hire missions against pirate ships.
2) Nazrix mentioned that in real life, if a navy travels in formation, the
pirates won't attack. I'd strongly suspect that the case would be the same
here.
3) Any but the slowest ship can outrun any other ship using tradelanes. (this
is a bug, and a fix is ready but supposedly won't be put into place until NPC
ships are around as well).
4) Someone used the analogy of a brand new car being totaled at whim...well,
in real life, your brand new car can't be restored back to 100% new with no
problems by spending less than a percent of the purchase price of the car.
Even being sunk once a day will cost less than the relative cost of car
insurance.
5) If you're worried about pirates at votk or other areas, then pick a random
spot 10-20 rooms away and sail to there and walk the last few rooms.
6) If these pirates are bothering you, then why not pkill them when off the
ship? There's all sorts of stuff to do, and I'm sure it's justified to pkill
them.
A ship provides lots of benefits that people seem to neglect mentioning when
complaining here. How else can a single party member carry back 2000+ kg of
loot to a city, and especially great enough distances to go across the realm
to get to the best priced shop. What about a regen room that has better tick
than any campfire+pc crystal combined. Or a safe place to flee and rest up
where monster s can't track you into. Or a movable no-penalty/no-cost way to
transport to startloc or nearest major city.
Anyways, a ship has a large number of benefits and the overall risks are
relatively small...I bet you die to monsters more often than you get sunk and
you probably lose more from a death...
