Isn't the navy supposed to sink pirates? Don't they have a channel to
communicate to each other with? Can't multiple ships attack a single ship?
Before you complain about pirates doing what pirates are DESIGNED to
do..shouldn't you look at the Navy..protectors of the High Seas, and how they
do NOTHING?
This isn't a case of abuse, it's a case of laziness/whine. The admin have
given us free reign to fix the problem ourselves. Is a particular pirate
rampaging over noob ships? Then the Navy targets that pirate for a while and
rapes them..or at the very least makes their pirating more difficult.
Let's not run to mommy and daddy when our big mean older brother is bullying
us around. Let's team up and take him down a peg or two ourselves.
Or you can keep whining. It's not like you use your testicles anyway.

And make it so pirates don't have safe harbour in civilized ports so we
actually have a solid shot at it.

There are about 4 active pirates atm so as member of
Navy it would be extremely dull job to try hunt down
those buggers.

Pirates on the other hand have all the fish in the
barrel without no predator above them.

I find it very difficult to think anything, what would
motivate people to join Navy.
So untill you find out solution which makes pirates
life more challenging they can keep shooting the fish
in the barrel.

Only helping tune that I can think is giving pirates
_heavy_ penalties for sinking more than one class
smaller ships.

Maybe then newbies/midbies who test first time their
class 2 ships might survive longer than half minute
out of harbour.

Although this whole pirate-related discussion is already out of hand and
mostly blown out of proportions (I don't think the situation is as bad as some
people would like to think. It _was_ somewhat worse in the old world, as it
was smaller, though.), I'd like to add my boring idea to the mess.

Agreed. It might be good, if there was some real incentive for pursuing and
hunting pirates. However, typically this might lead to a situation where the
incentives for being pirate, or part of navy would get up- and downtuned
according to the moodswings of wizards and mortal crowd.

Agreed, at least to some extent. But on the other hand, as you said yourself,
there are only about 4-6 active pirates in the BatWorld(tm), and there are
maybe 10 times more mnavy/sailors (not that they are all active at the same
time).

So it's not really shooting fish in the barrel, unless the barrel is the size
of an small lake. :)

What about if a special kind of role-playing element (oh noes!) was introduced
.. if a pirate ship was sunk by mnavy/etc members, the pirate ship crew and
captain would get arrested and "jailed", and the ship "confiscated". Now, I
don't mean that the ship would be permanently lost, or that the captain would
have to idle in Arelium prison.

However, the system might be implemented so, that the ship could not be
summoned for certain time, and the crew might suffer other penalties to
reputation.

Dunno if this would do any good. And maybe there are some penalties already, I
don't really know how the pirate-part of sailors guild works. :)

Well, for starters one could remove those massive bonuses from mnavy and add
decent bonuses to navy

Problem lies within the prize. Back in old days the prize for hunting down
pirates was immense, also pirating had a great prize. In here only pirating
has a prize.

How to implement prize equivalent to grandeuse titles and ranks and actual
power that was gained by captains hunting pirates? Could we implement
something similar as in land that can be taxed? Or tobacco farms? sugarcane
farms? other such which could be molded to new content that would bring
something to the game.

OR then it could be a quest kind of thing, capture pirates and you might
receive some autoloading equipment which would be available to you as long as
you are member of navy. Being part of Navy could also bring in some inherent
inbuilt defense bonuses to ships, so that they wouldn\'t be on the same line
as ship of same level on pirate side. If we want to get further on this maybe
merchant navy ships should get additional cargo hold. Like +10% ? Maybe
something for pirates too?

On equipment rewards for Navy captains maybe pirates captured would increase
bonuses on the equipment? Eventually one would have full set of Grand Admiral.
(Note: this could apply to both sides, though I would personally make navy side
get bigger and better bonuses, pirates get their loot eh, and that is a prize
in itself.)

Shrug, just a thought.

Just install Corbonite in all ships hulls ala Star Trek and the entire problem
is solved....instead this time you won\'t be bluffing like Kirk was and as
both victim and pirate are treading water in the smoking ruins of there once
proud vessels you get the satisfaction that you had the last laugh.
