Since we have so many races that are allergic or cannot tick in light/dark,
and getting a party can sometimes hinge on that issue (ents, for example, are
useless for anything but a solo reinc), why not give Tarmalens a new spell
that gives a temporary immunity to these effects. Say, a 10 minute duration,
sort of like infra.
This would allow some of the more shunned races to actually be useful in a
party and would boost the tarmies' arsenal of useful spells. Oh, and maybe we
might actually start to see ents in OTHER backgrounds than evil religious.
After all, they were (originally) on the good side..
You know, pointing to another game *cough*wow*cough, they actually
are revamping the whole system, changing every class and racial features.
You know why? Their official statement was that they want the players
to choose whom they play with regardless of the class/spec your friend
chose, instead of forcibly getting some jerk who conveniently happens to
have the feats you need.
In the current system you cannot stack your party with X X X because you
_have_ to have Y and Z in order to manage the battle.

I would like to see this in bat. I think its been a lousy idea from
the beginning for classes to negate each other out. So friends who
want to play a certain class cannot party with other dudes just because
of the race.

Since we are not a PvP-world which would justify two different sides,
why not remove the racial feats and down/uprank their abilities so
that everyone can play with everyone, and their racial banes and
boons changed to something that help occasionally in some places,
but not make you a dissed race/class.
So instead of making races cause eachother collateral damage,
make their diversities aid eachother (like its rumoured that
cromagnons do).

Of course some HC roleplayer will pick up a pitchfork and start
ranting about 'stop ruining our game'. Rant on. I'd say bat
should start finally moving towards another direction.

First I thought your idea has merit. I thought, yeah, why do we have races
that are so hard to combine in parties?
Then I realized, why do you reinc into a race that gimps you if you want to
party?
Because it's the best race? Come on - there's probably five other races for
that specific reinc that are very nearly as good, without the drawbacks.
You'll score no points for having 10 SP more if you can't regenerate. Pick a
partyrace if you want to party.
Your best minmax class has some drawbacks. Take that into your minmaxing
calculations.

Well, my point is that when you type 'who race ent' you only get 2-3 players,
sometimes even none (not counting the one idle testchar that's always in
hell). Are some races meant to be that way? Why do we have racial diversity
anyway, if the point (as i understood from your post) is to 'choose the one
without the drawbacks'. Most people do so, that's why we have a crapload of
elves, giants and a few others. Remove the rest of the races then, because
they're clearly not meant to be used.

Because its the concept behind it? Obviously someone plays it. Don't forget,
BatMUD is actually a game for some (yeah I know, hard to believe that not
everyone here comes to grind with the ultimate goal of soloing Tiamat.) I'm
sure if they created a moose race with all the worst stats, someone would play
the moose for the sake of being a moose.

Yes yes, it is a game. Yadda yadda. I'm trying to improve this game, by
pointing out certain inconsistencies. There is absolutely NO harm in coding a
short-duration spell to negate darkness/light allergy. Ffs, if there is a
spell to remove statcurses (which does not unbalance the game in any way), I
don't see why there shouldn't be a spell to protect from light/dark. I recall
that at least some years ago the policy of the mud was 'to promote partying'.
Now it seems to promote soloing? And that with a smaller playerbase? I don't
see any good in that.
