How about offering bbs door games thru batmud! Bring back games
like Solar Realms Elite, Barren Realms Elite, Tradewars 2002, Legend
of the Red Dragon, and many many more!

I've always wondered were the any BBS SyOps that could resist the
temptation to reset their daily actions in LORD more than once.

I'll reply to this, as it's a valid idea even if it's posted in bs.

Personally I think it's a fun thought, and I alteast remember fondly
some of the BBS door games of old. We have actually on occasions
toyed with the idea of implementing something like that (as an
optional component to BatMUD) but it has the following challenges:

1. BBS Door games tend to expect character mode telnet, whereas MUDs
and MUDclients do linemode telnet (the difference between the two
is that you need to hit enter in your telnet client before the
command is sent to the game/MUD). Most mudclients are unable to
do character based telnet.

2. In order to display some of the ANSI art, players would need to
utilize a font that is able to display the full Code page 437.

3. Ideally we would integrate the authentication of them based on
your MUD login, which would require quite a bit of custom code
(this would probably be doable tho, via some python hack that
generates the door.sys).

4. Overall, in previous player surveys (most recently the one Tarken
& Dralith conducted this year), the interest for such minigames
among bat players has been pretty low.

Hence, without knowing whether there is genuine interest in the
idea, I doubt it's worth putting alot of effort to get around the
technical issues of implementing it.

There are ways to emulate those servers, if my memory serves me correctly I
remember playing a bit of usurper over a web browser once. (sniffing glue for
exp stands out in my mind from that game). I don't know how much interest our
players would have, but I suggest that such things might constitute a
potential draw for nostalgia seekers. This might even be a good direction for
Bat to grow, as a place for people to come try out such bits of history.

Just an initial thought anyway. I haven't looked into how many remakes
there've been of these games. Still, I think the idea would genereally be good
for the game and for a potential audience expansion.
