I'm always a fan of new content that considers different play styles..
For those unaware, There is a new 1x boot accessible dungeon at the Feldspar
site (south of pier on deso). Access is purchased via favour for 250 for 1,
500 for group of 3 and 750 for group of 9. So if you want to make your way
inside, you'll have to do some daily deso tasks.
Chances are people are already aware of this via the inform.. unless you only
read bs forum.
I've had a chance to play around in the area and i have a few thoughts.. I
think it's new content so there are bound to be some tweaks until it finds
the right balance so i thought i'd throw out my 2 cents.
SPOILERS!
So past this point, i'm going to talk about various features of the dungeon
that some players might want to figure out by themselves.
A 15 minute limit was originally mentioned.. this is indeed enforced but
only if another player tries to access the dungeon while you're down there.
As of yet, I haven't been booted out of the dungeon so i've yet to experience
this. But the dungeon is still not all that commonly used so.. not surprising.
It seems this feature is slightly bugged in that.. if someone has already
accessed the dungeon during boot but has already left.. you'll still be
forced to wait the 15 minutes even if the dungeon is empty. Also, if a player
gets the 15 minute warning and leaves prior to the full 15 minutes... you'll
still have to wait out the 15 min. .. but it works.
Now.. there are 3 levels (?) that i've found and each one finishes with a
double locked chest and exit to the next level (3rd just has chest). Chests
can be opened via a mechanic in the dungeon but the drop rate for the items
seems bad. That is to say, 20+ mobs killed and i've yet to see one come down.
If you could pre purchase the required item, it wouldn't be so bad. You could
prepare yourself for your run on the dungeon but.. this leads to the next
problem. The item doesnt always work. I've grinded mobs until i found it,
then killed the appropriate follow up mob repeatedly and nothing happens.
This ends up being a case of killing upwards of 60 mobs over the course of
2 hrs to make the mechanic work and usually i get bored-frustrated and just
leave. Add to this, I've heard that you can force the chests if you're
strong enough.. but not blast or kick them open. I like the mechanic to
open the chests.. personally i think it should be the sole way of opening
them but it should definitely be facilitated. Either that or allow them
to be opened in the conventional ways.. by whichever build you have.
Finally, I've realized that Ultra hard tasks are.. accessible so i can
go about upgrading my items to ultra highbie status. Unfortunately this
means that until i have my 4k favour, i'll be unable to do the daily
dungeon in that it would push me below the 3k limit. This is.. unfortunate
in that i like playing around with them but not the end of the world..
but it does mean i won't touch them for the next 2-3 wks or however long
it takes me to complete 10 ultra hard tasks.
Criticism? nope. i like the idea of this kind of content.. there are new
treasures to gather, more stuff to do. I've run the dungeon about a dozen
times by now and it's becoming part of my routine. I think it could
benefit from a couple unique encounter rooms... just to spice things up
and maybe a couple secrets? or maybe i haven't discovered them yet.
Possibly some mid-or long-term grind reasons for running the dungeons.
Was trying to think of a work-around to get those with high favour into
the dungeons and... came up with..
once you're past 3k favour, you're a respected helper of the feldspar
faction and either the secretary or the security guard will wave you in
at no cost. Maybe just a single pass in that sortof.. oh it's you? well..
because you're a friend.. you can just go in sortof way.
